Qazigund, Feb 3 (KNO): Two personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department were injured while battling a fire incident in the Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, officials said.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a blaze broke out at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Qazigund and quickly engulfed the building before it could be brought under control.
He said F&ES personnel, assisted by police and local residents, launched an operation to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby structures.
“Two firefighters from the F&ES unit Qazigund sustained injuries during the operation,” the official said.
The injured firefighters were later identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Wani and Waseem Mehraj Shah, both posted at the F&ES Qazigund unit. “They were immediately shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where their condition is stated to be stable,” he said.
Fire tenders were pressed into service soon after the incident and the blaze was eventually brought under control, preventing further damage, officials added.—(KNO)
